About Cocktails & Commerce

Hello, and thank you for checking out my newsletter. Pull up to the bar, grab a drink, and settle in for conversations about commerce, digital marketing, and cocktails.

I like to stare into the future and reflect on the past as I think about where our industry is headed. I focus on digital commerce and marketing technology and services and have had the good fortune to play many, many different types of roles in the market and still play an active role in the ecosystem.

This newsletter contains my personal views - and passion for mixology - and I will not be focused on marketing Bloomreach here. But of course we would love to engage with you if you think we can help with your business’ digital commerce experience or marketing - or if you would like to explore partnership. Ping me on LinkedIn if you want to get in touch.

Here I will be sharing perspectives on the market, industry, commentary on key news, links to important articles and research you may have missed - along with a cocktail.

I plan to share an article or post roughly every two weeks, so subscribe to get full access to the newsletter so you never miss an update.

Thanks for reading Cocktails, Commerce, & Conversion! Subscribe for free to receive new posts - the drinks are on me.

About Me

I have had the good fortune to have a long career in e-Commerce, digital commerce, digital marketing, retail, technology, consulting, and research - having had the pleasure to serve in a wide variety of different roles and types of organizations along the way. For over a decade now I have been focused on strategy, where the technology market is headed, and what businesses should do to prepare for what is ahead. Check out my LinkedIn profile if you are curious about the specifics because I am not going to bore you with my CV here. I am now Co-Founder and Principal at StrategyēM, a boutique strategic advisory firm focused on the commerce and marketing technology ecosystems - the vendors and services providers who drive this industry and the VCs and PE firms who are behind many of them. Besides perspective, one of the greatest benefits I have been blessed to accrue through my long career is the many, many friends in the industry I have made and to whom I can turn to for their insights and perspectives. And as for writing about all that? Well I miss the focus I had on writing when I served as the lead commerce technology analyst at Forrester Research many years ago. It is great to focus more on that again.

I have however never worked as a professional bartender or in a bar. Well, maybe that is not exactly true - there was that one time when I was about thirteen and I had to tend bar in my Grandparents' restaurant when everyone called in sick. My grandfather simply told me to follow the regulars instructions - so naturally doubles turned into triples. And yes, the tips were good.

About thirteen or fourteen years ago my interest in cocktails and mixology really took off. Check out my introductory post if you want to know more about how my journey with mixology started. Today I have an extensive collection of spirits, vermouths, amari, and liqueurs which I have stashed in my basement and large bar cabinet. Those are paired with the many books and friends who share my passion and interest.

Yes, I am real - though not always this tan.
